Put a chalk mark on the top of the tire and the top of the drive shaft. Put the transmission in neutral and spin the rear wheels. Count the number of times the drive shaft spins to one revolution of the tire. a 255/75R17 is an inch taller than a 255/70R17 (255/75R17 is a 32") A 32" tire with no lift can be done if you want to trim. There have been rumors of a 31" tire fitting on no lift with no rub but I'd be shocked if a 32" would. ~Chris. His: 2004 WJ - OME HD 'Kolak' Lift - Build Thread.
The 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee tire sizes are 235/65HR17, 245/65HR17, 255/60HR17, 245/60HR18, 255/55HR18, 225/75SR16, 245/70SR16, 235/65SR17, 245/65SR17, 245/55VR19. The 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee bolt pattern is 5x127. For more info check the size tables below.

Maybe for only highway driving but definetly not offroadable 2" BB 245/75/R16, 255/70/R16, 265/70/R16 all work fine (265/70/R16 may have minimal rubbing)
